The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is a 2002 epic fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson, based on the second volume of J. R. R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings. The film is the second instalment in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and was produced by Barrie M. Osborne, Fran Walsh and Jackson, and written by Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Stephen Sinclair and Jackson. The film features an ensemble cast including Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchett, John Rhys-Davies, Bernard Hill, Christopher Lee, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto, David Wenham, Brad Dourif, Karl Urban and Andy Serkis. It was preceded by The Fellowship of the Ring and followed by The Return of the King. Continuing the plot of The Fellowship of the Ring, the film intercuts three storylines. Frodo and Sam continue their journey towards Mordor to destroy the One Ring, meeting and joined by Gollum, the rings former owner. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli come to the war-torn nation of Rohan and are reunited with the resurrected Gandalf, before fighting at the Battle of Helms Deep. Merry and Pippin escape capture, meet Treebeard the Ent, and help to plan an attack on Isengard. The Two Towers was financed and distributed by American studio New Line Cinema, but filmed and edited entirely in Jacksons native New Zealand, concurrently with the other two parts of the trilogy. It premiered on 5 December 2002 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and was theatrically released on 18 December 2002 in the United States, and on 19 December 2002 in New Zealand. The film was highly acclaimed by critics and fans alike, who considered it to be a landmark in filmmaking and an achievement in the fantasy film genre. It grossed $951.2 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of 2002 and the fourth highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release. The Two Towers is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential fantasy films ever made. The film received numerous accolades; at the 75th Academy Awards, it was nominated for six awards, including Best Picture, Best Art Direction, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Mixing, winning two: Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects.

TowerFall

TowerFall

TowerFall is an action indie video game created by Matt Thorson through their company Matt Makes Games. In the game, players control up to four archers in a multiplayer platform fighter. It was released on the Ouya microconsole in June 2013 and was later ported to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Linux, OS X, and Windows as TowerFall Ascension. TowerFall was Thorsons first commercial game. It followed from a June 2012 game jam single-player prototype. Thorson tested the game on their indie developer colleagues with whom they lived, and developed its capacity as a party game. Its mechanics were inspired by games of Thorsons youth, such as Bushido Blade and GoldenEye 007, and influenced by demo feedback at the Evolution Championship Series fighting game tournament. TowerFall was known as the standout title for the Ouya at the consoles launch. In its first year, the game sold around 7.000 copies on Ouya, resulting in a gross revenue of about $105.000. When the Ouya exclusivity expired, Thorson signed another exclusivity agreement for the PlayStation 4, where Ascension received an expanded single-player mode, and new levels, weapons, and gameplay variants. A PlayStation Vita release followed in 2015, and Xbox One and Switch versions have been released as well. A standalone eight-player edition for Windows released in 2016. Ascension s was met with generally favorable reception. Critics recommended it as a party game favorable to Super Smash Bros. and praised its balance. However, some felt that its single-player mode was a low point, and lamented the lack of an online multiplayer mode.

Ziggurat Pyramid, Dubai

Ziggurat Pyramid, Dubai

Ziggurat Pyramid is a pyramid-shaped arcology that was conceived for Dubai in 2008. It was estimated to start construction in 2021 and complete it by 2028. The structure was designed to house nearly one million people and would be self-sustainable with all-natural energy sources. Like the pyramids of the Mayans and Egyptians, this structure in Dubai would be a giant; it would cover 2.3 square kilometers 0.88 square miles and would be able to sustain a community of up to one million people. The" Ziggurat” is named after the temple towers of the ancient Mesopotamian valley, a terraced pyramid structure with successively receding stories. It would be a carbon-neutral structure. According to the International Institute for the Urban Environment, the technologies incorporated into the Ziggurat project would make it a viable metropolis. Timelinks has already patented the design and technology used in this project. The building would be green, powered by solar, wind and natural sources and capable of running completely off the grid, according to Timelinks, a Dubai-based pioneering environmental design company who is in charge of the building. The building would also boast an efficient public transportation system, which would run horizontally and vertically. Ziggurat communities can be almost totally self-sufficient energy-wise. Apart from using steam power in the building we will also employ wind turbine technology to harness natural energy resources. Whole cities can be accommodated in complexes which take up less than 10% of the original land surface. Public and private landscaping will be used for leisure pursuits or irrigated as agricultural land”, said Timelinks, MD, Ridas Matonis. A horizontal and vertical integrated 360 degree network would be the mode of transportation in this city of the future, making cars redundant. Facial recognition technology for security purposes is another interesting feature that would be incorporated into the Ziggurat Project. After the initial proposal in 2008 there was no further information.
